Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, has said that after gleaning documents related to the controversial Woyome judgment debt payment he was convinced that some seven people must by all means stand trial for their roles in the scandal.
The seven persons, according to him, belonged to both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Among them, Pratt said, were four key persons who should have been arrested by now and he could not fathom why those people were still enjoying their freedom.
President John Evans Mills tasked the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate circumstances leading to the State losing GHS 58million in judgment debt to NDC bankroller, Alfred Agbesi Woyome. However, past officials who were invited by the investigative body have sought a court action to stop EOCO from forcing them to be part of the process, with the NPP clearly stating its decision to only submit to a public inquiry commission.
While investigations are ongoing, Mr Pratt said he has i his possession all documents covering the case and was now certain after studying them that the unnamed persons must be punished for causing the nation such a huge loss.
He was contributing to discussions on Peace FM’s news analysis programme Kokrokoo Tuesday.
Mr. Pratt promised to publish the said documents – including letters by former Education Minister Betty Mould Iddrisu and Finance Minister Kwabena Duffour - soon to afford all Ghanaians the opportunity to read and understand the situation and draw their own conclusions.
He maintained that all seven persons must be brought to book if government was serious about punishing all those involved in the judgment debt scandal.
Pratt also took a swipe at members of the NDC for their unyielding support for Alfred Woyome who is widely perceived as a major financier of the ruling party.
He could not comprehend the position of some party big wigs who have constantly been defensive of Woyome as well as pro-NDC groups that have sprang up to organise street protests on his behalf.
For instance, he said Woyome was proudly fraternising with the NDC during their primaries in the past few weeks. “Why are the NDC inflicting mortal wounds on themselves?” Pratt asked.
Labeling their actions as "suicidal tendencies", Kwesi Pratt stated that the NDC seem to be itching to go back into opposition.
