Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has asked President Mills to immediately dismiss Deputy Attorney General Ebo Bartin Oduro and suspend his former boss Betty Mould-Iddrisu to pave way for credible investigations into circumstances leading to the payment of GHS 58 million judgement debt to National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, Alfred Agbesi Woyome. This, he said, was necessary because Mr Bartin Oduro – expected to defend the State in the absence of the substantive A-G who is out of the jurisdiction - has indicated publicly that government bad case against Woyome. “Why are you wasting our time in court if you don’t have a case?” Pratt asked concerning the A-G’s recent writ in court asking for a stay of execution of the judgment debt awarded to Woyome. Meanwhile, President J.E.A. Mills has directed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the issue. During a discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Friday, Mr Pratt wondered what the position of government was on the matter. He questioned why some government appointees - Deputy Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia and dismissed government communication team member Benjamin Akyena Brentuo - have been loud in the media defending Mr Woyome and contradicting what seems to be the President’s position as far as the case was concerned. “Does the Public Service Regulation…allow for this?” he wondered. Kwesi Pratt, who condemn what he said was mixed communication from the government, noted the situation was confusing the populace more and more and called on President Mills to act fast. Even in Kweku Ananse’s land, he said, this sort of thing cannot happen. The editor also stressed the importance for setting up a body to openly conduct the investigations, saying Ghanaians were very interested in the case and would want to follow to the latter. He averred that any inquiry into the issue should not be held behind closed door. "This is going to be a major test case, especially for the President,” Pratt stated, adding, Mills would be admired if he handles the case well but insisted, “We want to see the signs now.”
