A 16-year-old girl who was assaulted by a police officer at Begoro in the Eastern region has lost the unborn child.
The girl – identified only as Dora – is alleged to have been pulled and thrown against an electricity pole by the officer who had come to arrest her for stealing a mobile phone.
She was then arrested and sent to the police station by the officer who refused to heed to the pleas from family members.
It was at the police station that Dora is alleged to have bled, leading to the loss of the child.
A relative of the victim, Obaa Yaa told Joy News in an interview the officer was unwilling to reason with them.
“We begged him many times not to take her to the police station because her mother was not at home, he could come later but he did not listen.”
“I even told him she was pregnant, but again, he did not bother, he dragged her into the police vehicle and took her away” she added.
They have reported the matter to the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
Police in the region have been unavailable for comments on the matter.
