President John Evans Atta Mills has commissioned the 14 km N1 Highway, also known as the Tetteh Quarshie-Mallam highway on Wednesday.The highway was constructed with 547 million dollars funding from the US Millennium Challenge Corporation.The commissioning of the road paves the way for the official opening of the highway to motorists.The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and a former Minister of Public Sector Reforms, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, and officials from the Millennium Challenge Corporation.Joy News’ Cyrus DeGraft Johnson who was at the ceremony said President Mills commended his predecessor former President Kufuor under whose tenure the funding was secured.He called on all to avoid playing politics with the project – as who started it and who completed it.President Mills also warned people from encroaching on the yet to be developed land along the highway, adding that offenders would be dealt with.
