More than forty tailors and seamstresses engaged by the government to produce free school uniforms for pupils in the Ellembele District of the Western Region are demanding payment for their services.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nkroful on Wednesday, Mr Menlah Ackah, a tailor and spokesperson for the group, said the contract was given to them in August last year and members managed to sow the uniforms within three weeks.
He said the district assembly had betrayed its promise to pay for their services since then.
Mr Ackah he was suppose to be paid GH¢175 while others had to be paid higher based on the number of school uniforms they sow.
He appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills to ensure that members received what was due them.
Mr Ackah said the artisans would embark on demonstrations to demand their monies.Source: GNA
