Professor Clifford Nii B. Tagoe, Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana, on Thursday called on staff of public universities to critically re-examine their roles to ensure sustainable development.
He said senior staff should change their attitude to work and put up their best for their subordinates to emulate for them for the benefit of the universities.
Prof. Tagoe made the call when addressing delegates attending the bi-annual congress of Federation of Universities Senior Staff Associations of Ghana (FUSSAG) in Accra.
The three-day congress under the theme, “Providing Effective Supervision in Public Universities in Ghana- The Role of the Senior Staff” delegates would deliberate on issues affecting them, challenges facing public universities and map out strategies to solve them for effective and efficient academic work.
Prof. Tagoe urged senior staff to be responsible and effective supervisors and play their leadership roles as role models and be loyal to management.
He called on them to build confidence, trust and establish good communication links for the public universities to progress.
Mr Akuoku Kyei Baffour, FUSSAG Chairman, University of Ghana, Legon said public universities must ensure that packages and other conditions of service motivated the staff to increase productivity.
He noted that all categories of staff in the universities contributed their quota towards improvement in all facets of the university working environment.
