Some aggrieved public sector workers have taken to the streets of Accra this morning to protest what they say is an inadequate increment in salaries.

The group says the 4% and 7% pay raise does not amount to much.

The leadership of organised labour had indicated that the low percentage of the increment allows the government to employ over one million workers in the public service.

But the workers firmly disagree, adding that they were not involved in the decision-making process.

Some of them told JoyNews that "it is very sad to see our leaders doing this to us; it is not fair."

"They should go and renegotiate and come back with a reasonable percentage," he told Kwesi Parker-Wilson.

Clad in red and black attires, the agitated workers are hoisting placards and chanting war songs to demonstrate their pleasure at the development.

The agitated public sector workers insist salaries should have seen a more substantial raise considering the devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Inscriptions on the placards include, 'Fellow Ghanaians are suffering', 'Treat workers as humans, not slaves', 'Say no to 4% virus', among others.

Convener of the agitated group, Norbert Gborgbotsi, told JoyNews they will continue to demonstrate until the government pays heed to their demands.
