The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta River Authority (VRA) and Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to explain the cause of the current erratic power supply across the country.

Electricity supply has become erratic over the last few weeks, plunging the country into darkness for most parts of each day.
Even though the PURC, the regulator, requires that the power providers give information to the public on supply problems, they have failed to do so, prompting PURC to demand the explanation.

Director of Public Affairs at PURC, Nana Yaa Gyantua, said reports from the three power suppliers are conflicting.
"There are times we hear on the radio that it's generation [problem], other times it is a plant that has been shut down for maintenance. But we have to know actually what the situation is", she stressed.
She said ECG, VRA and GRIDCo have to engage the public and explain to them what is going on.
She adds that the three power supplier should be explaining to the PURC soon.
