A Circuit Court in Accra has remanded a New Patriotic Party sympathizer, Nana Darkwa in prison custody for alleging that ex-president Rawlings was responsible for torching his own residence in Sunday's blaze that reduced the Ridge residence to ashes.
He was charged with publishing false news with the intent to harm and cause panic among the public.
Joy News' correspondent, Sammy Darko said the accused will reappear on 3rd March, 2010.
Kwame Akufo, Counsel for the accused in an interview with Sammy Darko said he respects the decision by the sitting judge, B.K. Wilson but disagrees with it.
Under no circumstance will the comments alleged to have been made by his client cause fear, panic or harm, he insisted.
Meanwhile the court premises is said to have been swarmed by agitated supporters of the NPP who are protesting the police action and the judge's decision.
Nana Darkwa along with George Best were reported to have been picked up from the studio's of Top Radio in Accra for allegedly claiming that ex-President Rawlings might have set his own house ablaze.
Nana Darkwa was alleged to have been rather categorical and insistent that Rawlings committed arson and dared Kofi Adams, a spokesperson of the former president, to challenge him for proof.
Kofi Adams followed up on the claim and reported the case to the police.
