Former president Jerry Rawlings will be the special guest of honour at the maiden National Delegates Congress of the newly formed National Democratic Party (NDP,) to be held in Kumasi Saturday.
Spokesperson of the former president, Kofi Adams confirmed this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.
He said the newly formed party has presented the invitation and copies of its Constitution which is based on the key principles of Jerry Rawlings.
This brings to an end speculations about whether Mr. Rawlings will honour NDP’s invitation to grace the occasion.
The NDP on Wednesday placed a full page advertisement in the Daily Graphic newspaper announcing Mr. Rawlings’ participation in its Kumasi Congress.
According to the party, the former president will take centre stage and address the about 7,500 members and 2,500 delegates expected to attend the congress at the Baba Yara Sport Stadium on October 13.
Mr. Rawlings days, ago declared his unflinching support for his wife's ambition to lead the NDP in the December 7 general elections.
Among the supposed three aspiring candidates competing for the flag-bearership slot of the NDP, Mrs. Rawlings stands a greater chance of emerging the winner of the contest.
