The Retired National Footballers Association of Ghana (RENFAG) has expressed their displeasure over attempts by the 1963 Africa Cup Winning team, to make demands from the Ministry of Youth and Sports without their consent.
A statement signed by Alhaji Ibrahim Sunday, National Chairman of RENFAG said, the recent reception organized by some private individuals for the 1963 squad to celebrate 50th anniversary since Ghana won the first ever Nations Cup, came as a surprise and shock to them.
According to the statement, RENFAG which oversees the activities of all retired national players was not aware of the reception as well as claims by the group that they were promised estate houses by government when they first on the Nations Cup in 1963.
The statement described the conduct of the 1963 squad, as disappointing, since RENFAG had held meetings with the Minister of Youth and Sports over the plight members of the 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 and had subsequently submitted a list to the ministry for the necessary action to be taken.
“We were therefore unaware by the singular move by the 1963 squad and wish to disassociate ourselves from their conduct since it had raised several agitations from other winning members.
“We are not against fulfilling promises to the members of the squad but the process must be well coordinated because there are other players.”
