The Volta regional police commander says it has intensified police patrol on the Ho-Accra highway to deal with criminal activities that take place on that stretch of the road.
Speaking to Joy News, Wednesday, the regional police commander, ACP Peterkin Yentumi, further noted that his office has increased check points on the road to ensure that travelers are safe from robbery attacks.
As a result of the measures put in place, the Volta regional police commander insisted that the frequency at which robbery activities take place on the Ho-Accra highway has reduced drastically.
The comment of ACP Peterkin Yentumi came on the heels of reports that travelling on the Ho-Accra highway has become a matter of life and death due to numerous cases of highway robbery between Tsito and Kponvi Police barrier.
A report by Joy News correspondent Hubert Mawuli Yevu–Agbi indicates that vehicles are usually shot at and passengers, robbed of their valuables at gun-point on a 1km road between Tsito and Kponvi that has been a safe haven for criminal activities for ages.
Drivers at the Ho main Lorry station are threatening to embark on a demonstration if nothing is done about the situation, noting that the police have neglected the safety of the traveling public on that stretch of the road.
The drivers are also demanding the release of their colleague, Richard Asamoah, whose vehicle was attacked by robbers over the weekend and was arrested at the instance of the passengers, who were robbed off their valuables in the unfortunate situation.
The passengers had suspected the driver of having a link with the criminals.
