There was drama at the Central Market in Kumasi today as the Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu flared up following serious apathy that dogged the National Sanitation Day.
According to Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor the sanitation day begun at the Kumasi Central Market with traders showing little interest.
The traders were said to be sitting and watching whilst the Mayor and the Minister were busy clearing the gutters just in front of the market.
There was a preacher man busy propagating the gospel to the traders in the midst of the cleaning exercise.
The idleness of the traders angered the two officials with the Mayor later taking over the megaphone from the pastor.
"Cleanliness is next to godliness," he told the traders.
The Ashanti Regional Minister Peter Anaafi Mensah who was also angered by the filthy conditions under which food is being sold at the market issued a warning to the traders that they will be prosecuted if they were to sell under such conditions.
The story in other regions is no different. In Accra military men had to block parts of the main Teshie Nungua road and ordered vehicles to return until after 12:00 noon.
The military men who claimed to be obeying orders from above told occupants of the vehicles-both private and commercial- to go and take part in cleaning their neighborhoods.
Not much was seen by residents in Teshie as far as the National Sanitation Day was concerned.
According to Joy News' Latiff Iddrisu, there were people who took part in the cleaning exercise at Osu and other parts of the capital.
