Mr Abu Kansangbata, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, has expressed concern about the 30 per cent school dropout rate among basic school pupils in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District.
Mr Kansangbata, who described the situation as disturbing, tasked the District Director of Education to come out with a comprehensive plan of action which could aid in solving the problem.
Mr Kansangbata was speaking during the First Ordinary Meeting of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District Assembly at Issa on Friday.
He emphasized the importance of education to the development of the district and urged them to send their children to school and ensure that the children stayed in school to complete their education successfully.
Mr Kansangbata expressed dissatisfaction about the abysmal performance of the Assembly in revenue generation and appealed to members, chiefs, and opinion leaders to support the Assembly in revenue generation to enable it to meet its development targets.
He appealed to Assembly members to support the Regional Ministry in efforts to deal with contractors who provided shoddy work so as to achieve value for money in terms of development projects.
Dr Sebastian Sandaare, Presiding Member of the Assembly, thanked the Government for creating the district.
He, however, expressed worry about the Assembly operating for one year without a substantive District Chief Executive (DCE).
This, according to him, was affecting development in the district and appealed to President Mahama to expedite action in nominating a substantive DCE for the district.
