About 200 health insurance ID Cards belonging to pupils of Effutu-Gyaahadze Municipal Primary School have been renewed and distributed to them free of charge at a ceremony at Gyaahadze near Winneba in the Central Region.
The renewal which cost nearly GH¢80 was funded by Mr Alex Afenyoh Markin, Presiding Member of the Effutu Municipal Assembly.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony on Monday, Mr Markin said his action was to supplement government’s efforts at building a healthier society capable of moving the nation forward.
He said the government considered the good health and educational needs of the children paramount, hence the introduction of several interventions, including the National Health Insurance Scheme, the Capitation Grant, the School feeding Programme and Free Basic School Education Policy to ensure that the nation breeds the right calibre of citizens for its effective and efficient administration in the years ahead.
Mr Markin assured people in the municipality that the NPP flag-bearer, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo-Addo’s promise to introduce free secondary education when voted into power will definitely be fulfilled when he wins the presidential slot on December 28.
They should therefore ignore all the lies being perpetrated against the NPP and the flag-bearer in particular, and vote massively for him, come December 28, to enable him to implement the excellent plans he had put on the drawing board for the future of the country.
Mr Markin advised the electorate in the area to think seriously about the future of their children who are the “window of hope for nation,” and reject any move by the foot solders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to influence them with cash and material gifts to vote for the NDC flag-bearer, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
Mr Markin told them that they would be making a big mistake should they vote for Prof Mills because the NDC will reverse the nation’s clock of development.
He said apart from the NHIS, he has special plans for people in the municipality, adding that, so long as he remained the leader of the Municipal Assembly, he would make sure that development projects designed by the Assembly was equitably distributed among all the communities which constituted the Municipality.
Mrs Rebecca Afrifa Cudjoe, the Headmistress of the School who received the cards on behalf of the children thanked the Presiding Member for his gesture and hoped that he would assist the school to resolve the serious power problem facing the school.
