The Bono Region Police Command has disclosed that an internal inquiry has been launched into allegations that three of its officers at Seikwa Police station, manhandled a suspect in custody till he died and allegedly buried him secretly.
The body was then exhumed when they found out they had been caught on tape.
The trio, identified as Chief Inspector Eric Aforo, station officer at Seikwa Police, and two other officers namely General Corporal Williams Akussumg and General Constable Ebenezer Akuffo, have since been interdicted whilst investigations get underway.
At a press briefing, the Bono Regional Crime Officer, Supt Kennedy Adusei stated that the Akyeamehene of Seikwa, Opayin Esuman II was the person who designated a land for the deceased to be buried.
According to the Crime Officer, the chief considered the victim a pauper thus, “keeping him in the mortuary will be a burden on them,”
“They should have known better by preserving the body at the mortuary for but here on the case, the opposite happened,” he said.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Lawyer, Edmund Foley believes that the internal inquiry may not be enough.
According to him, the state has a duty to investigate three police officers who secretly buried a man who died in custody.
He said the Bono East Crime Officer, Supt Kennedy Adusei admitting that a wrong had been done is the first step to take to seek justice.
