Sekou Nkrumah, the last son of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has declared that his sister Samia Nkrumah made the wrong decision by opting to join forces with the Convention Peoples Party (CPP). Samia Nkrumah, who spent most of her formative years in Italy, is the CPP Parliamentary candidate for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region. As if he had forgotten that his father founded the red cockerel family, Sekou indicated that his sister ought to have made the right political decision by joining him in the umbrella of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC} Almost a year ago, Sekou stunned political pundits when he announced his decision to join the NDC. Speaking on Fox Fm in Kumasi, Sekou noted, "Though I am deeply in love with my sister, I don't think she can annex the Jomoro seat while running on the ticket of the CPP". He declared support for Hon. Lee Ocran, the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for the area and observed that his sister was going to be humiliated in the polls come December 7. Sekou said he was doubtful about his sister's loyalty to the CPP, the political tradition that produced the first President of the country, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou's father. He emphasized, "If Samia really had the welfare of the CPP at heart as she claims, she would not have left the country for many years without being bothered about the progress of the party". Sekou made a wild allegation that Samia did not really love the CPP as she claims but just wanted to ride on the fortunes of the party to advance her political ambition. Samia Nkrumah, who also spoke on the same network and programme, harshly rubbished his senior brother's outburst. She said to the best of her knowledge, she was sure she made the right decision to join the" political family which was founded by her late father. "Even if my decision was wrong, I don't need Sekou to point it out to me," Samia stated. The 48-year old daughter of the late Nkrumah observed that once she was making progress in her campaign to unseat Hon. Lee Ocran, she does not require the support of her senior brother, Sekou, to be successful in the upcoming Parliamentary elections. She stressed-that she was going to win the election hands down, because the electorate in the constituency, irrespective of their political colouration, had understood her message of hope and prosperity. Samia, who is married with a child, emphasized that her love and likeness for the CPP was genuine but not counterfeit as his senior brother wanted the whole world to believe. "Yes, it is true that I have been away for many years, but it does not mean that I did not care about the advancement of my father's party," she indicated. The CPP Parliamentary hopeful advised his elder brother to concentrate his energies in advancing the course of his newly found party and leave her alone to concentrate on her campaign of becoming a CPP Parliamentarian in the next Parliament.
