The former Deputy Information Minister has charged the governing NPP to provide infrastructure for rural folks that will stand the test of time.
Felix Ofosu Kwakye said the party touting the building of solitary toilets and other “mediocre” projects as infrastructure is embarrassing.
“If there are no toilets in communities why can’t you put a modern 12 unit or 18 unit toilet in the village, why can’t you put a water system that serves many people at a time?” he quizzed on JoyNews' Newsfile show.
The NDC Parliamentary candidate for Abura Asebu Kwamankese stated that the NPP’s infrastructure for all idea does not mean that grand projects cannot be undertaken to serve communities for the long haul.
His comment comes in response to the New Patriotic Party’s Town Hall meeting on infrastructure developments in the country addressed by Vice President Bawumia.
The address has raised questions from people including the NDC who questioned some projects the NPP had highlighted.
“I have seen speed rumps and signages, solitary unplastered toilets, solitary poly tanks sitting in some corners labelled as water projects. No government in this day and age should be touting that,” Felix Kwakye told Evans Mensah on Top Story, Wednesday after the address.
However, in the Vice President's address, he stated that some of the projects mentioned are to meet the needs of the poor and deprived communities "which many governments have historically ignored."
"Who says that if you want to meet the needs of the poor you must engage in the level of mediocrity Nana Akufo-Addo has engaged in?" Mr Ofosu Kwakye asked on Newsfile.
He told the host Samson Lardy Anyenini that unlike the NPP, the NDC during their time in power created water projects like the Kpong Water projects, modern water systems at Osenase and others that served thousands of Ghanaians in rural areas.
“It is possible to serve poor communities with infrastructure that is significant, one that will serve the test of time. We did it such that it showed a certain level of appreciation, for the dignity of the people who are going to benefit,”
He added that implementing massive infrastructure projects ca serve both the needs of people in rural and urban communities.
