SG Bank Ghana has hosted the final screening and awards ceremony of its annual Artention Film Competition, the Bank’s flagship initiative dedicated to nurturing young talent and supporting the growth of Ghana’s creative arts industry.
The programme has become a cornerstone of the Bank’s broader commitment to innovation, youth empowerment, and the creative economy.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Business, Head of Innovation at SG Bank Ghana, George Adjebeng, outlined the Bank’s long-term strategy to strengthen its support for emerging creatives and foster sustainable business growth in the sector.
He revealed that SG Bank is developing a specialised product suite tailored specifically to the creative industry, aimed at helping young creatives transition their talents into viable enterprises.
“We’re a bank, and much of what we do is geared towards helping people build sustainable businesses. Very soon, we’ll be introducing our own creative industry offer, developed in collaboration with the creatives themselves, to deliver products and services uniquely tailored for them", he pointed out .
The funds they have received through this competition will now be channeled into a seed fund for the businesses they establish. They will also receive mentorship from our experts, and our Home of Business platform is well-suited to support them. Beyond that, they will gain access to SG’s retail and corporate customers as a market opportunity", he said.
Mr. Adjebeng further emphasised that the Bank is integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles across its creative partnerships, reinforcing its commitment to responsible and inclusive economic development.
The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Film Authority, James Gardiner, praised SG Bank Ghana for its consistent support, noting that the growth of Ghana’s film industry depends on strong, long-term partnerships.
“Ghana’s film landscape needs partnerships like this. Funding remains a major challenge in filmmaking, and government cannot shoulder the responsibility alone. Each of us has a role to play. Even something as simple as walking into a cinema and buying a ticket is a meaningful contribution to the film ecosystem. Initiatives like the Artention Film Competition are essential for the sustainability of the industry.”
This year’s edition of the Artention Film Competition placed a strong focus on empowering emerging filmmakers. After a rigorous selection and training process, five talented teams were chosen and provided with mentorship, resources and production support to bring their film concepts to life.
The final screening marks the culmination of their creative journey and will reveal the team that emerges as the overall winner for 2025.
The initiative continues to position SG Bank Ghana as a champion of youth creativity, innovation, and sustainable development within the fast-evolving creative arts sector.
