Four hardworking Shell service station staff, who excelled in their work in 2016, have been awarded an all-expenses paid trip to New York, USA to participate in this year’s Shell Global Smiling Stars Programme.
The winners, who will be travelling with their spouses, are Mr George Ayensu Afful, the Country Retailer of the Year, Mr. Winfred Agbewu, the Gold Retailer of the Year and Mr. Famous Boateng, Service Champion and Quality Marshall of the Year. Mr. Samuel Addai was also adjudged the Best Territory Manager of the Year 2016.
The Smiling Stars Programme, organised by Shell, is an annual event that rewards Shell service station sales staff from around the world for exceptional performance across. Shell believes that ‘people make the difference real’, hence the institution of the programme.
The winners were announced during Vivo Energy’s recent Retailers’ Conference and Awards, where a total of forty-one (41) awards were presented to deserving retailers and support staff across the country for their sterling performance in 2016, which contributed to the growth of the business.

Delivering his keynote address, the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Faulkner said in spite of the challenges that confronted the oil marketing industry in 2016, Vivo Energy Ghana delivered a robust plan, increasing its network size with the addition of 45 new sites. “This ensured that our expanded footprint nationwide provided us the platform to perform well, in the face of market challenges.” he said.
Mr. Faulkner said, the objective of Vivo Energy Ghana is to provide the best experiences for its customers when they visit Shell service stations, hence the annual awards to recognise hard working retailers and operational staff who have contributed to making the Shell brand the most preferred fuel brand in Ghana. Mr. Faulkner said that the company will continue to deliver a high end customer experience to its valued customers.
The Retail Manager of Vivo Energy Ghana, Mr. Kwame Ackah, also remarked that Vivo Energy Ghana will continue to build the capacity of its forecourt staff to ensure they deliver top-notch services to customers.
Commenting on his award, the 2016 Country Retailer of the Year, Mr. George Ayensu Afful, said he started his career at Shell as a Quality Marshall and rose to become a Retailer.
“I am deeply involved in my job and the customer is the focus of my business. I have developed a personal relationship with my customers to ensure optimum customer satisfaction and I dedicate this award to them and my staff.”
