One person has been killed and several others injured in clashes at Avenor, a suburb of Accra. The violence erupted after a busload of people arrived at a settlement in the area to work on a property belonging to the Word Miracle Church. The clashes come days after the church secured a court order to demolish structures on a parcel of land in the area.A team of police officers supervised the demolition exercise last week which residents protested.According to Joy News’ Yaw Ansu-Gyeabuor, who witnessed the aftermath of the clashes, police have arrested 27 people in connection with the incident, 17 of whom are believed to be land guards. The land guards had claimed the church had asked them to carry out an exercise on its parcel of land there. But residents say the armed land guards started firing gunshots on arrival, arousing panic. The gunfire reportedly triggered a clash in which one of the land guards was gunned down and his left arm severed.Meanwhile the Accra Police Command has begun interrogating officials of the World Miracle Church International over their alleged involvement in the shooting incident.Story by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
