The Deputy Minister for Science and Environment, Dr Omane Boamah, has explained how the Single Spine Salary Structure would be implemented to ensure fairness and equity in public sector wages.
According to him, it would be implemented in three different phases.
He was speaking on Metro TV’s current affairs programme Good Morning Ghana on Friday.
He explained that after the job evaluation undertaken by the consultants in charge of the single spine salary structure, some category of workers would experience an increment in their salaries.
The second category of workers, as he explained, would not experience any increment, thus maintaining their current salaries but would enjoy an annual general increment.
Further, the third category would have a reduction in their salaries but would also enjoy annual general increments.
However, the deputy minister acknowledged this new arrangement would bring problems since some workers would have their salaries slashed.
Meanwhile, Nana Akomea, the MP for Okaikoi South has noted that for the new salary structure to stand the test of time there should be a recognized legal entity to ensure the smooth implementation of the system.
