President John Mahama has promised to provide 10,000 free sandals to pupils in Basic schools as part of a package for enhanced education delivery in the country.
Presenting this package at the 2015 State of the Nation Address in Parliament, he said students can expect the sandals during the 2015/2016 academic year.

Unpacking Government’s progressive free education policy, he said some 500,000 pieces of school uniforms and 30,000 computers will also be provided to equip computer labs in these schools across the country.
It is all aimed at increasing enrolment at the basic level. He said local printing presses will also be engaged in the production of 15 million exercise books which will also be distributed in basic schools.
Announcing the roll out of contentious free SHS policy, he said over 300,000 students in Senior High Schools will atted school for free in September.
“Government will begin the implementation of the progressive free SHS at the start of the 2015/16 academic year…367,000 day students will benefit from the progressive free SHS…and they will pay no fees”, he told an enthusiatic Majority while the Minority sat in stony silence.
