The special voting is set to take place next week, on Monday, December 2, while the main exercise will occur on December 7.
According to the Electoral Commission (EC), ballots from Monday’s voting will not be counted until the general election is conducted on December 7.
Regarding the protection of the ballots, the Commission noted, “All ballot boxes shall be properly sealed and kept in a secure room at a police station within each constituency. Returning Officers shall ensure that Presiding Officers no not count ballots cast on the Special Voting Day.”
The EC also urged the public to “ignore any publication on Special Voting Day that suggests voters at any Special Voting Centre voted for any particular candidate
There are 328 Special Voting Centres across the country. The EC reassured the public to have confidence in the system, as all votes will be counted at the constituency level.
“Special Voting ballots will be counted at the Constituency Collation Centre after the close of poll on Election Day, 7th December 2024. The Returning Officer at the Constituency Collation Centre shall record the results of the Special Voting ballots separately on both the Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms,” the EC added.
Meanwhile, the Volta Region has received the ballot papers for the upcoming general elections scheduled for December 7.
Two trucks loaded with the ballot papers arrived at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters at approximately 9:45 pm on Tuesday, 26th November 2024.
This comes after the first ballot papers dispatched to the Volta and Ahafo regions were found to be faulty and were destroyed by the EC.
