The Spintex Knights basketball team, led by co-founder Dr Eric Opoku Antwi, unveiled their remarkable journey from Division 2 underdogs to triumphant champions of the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Division 1.
In a press briefing held at the Jobyco Hotel on Spintex Road, Dr Antwi, addressing the gathered press, articulated the team’s unparalleled growth. “The experience gained from clashes against basketball giants like Rivers Hoopers has been invaluable,” he said. “We etched an incredible feat, remaining unbeaten for two consecutive years while clinching the league trophy—a historical moment for a Division 2 team.”

Coach Selorm Thomas echoed Dr. Antwi’s sentiments, emphasizing their initial target of becoming the first Ghanaian team to represent in the Basketball African League. “Emerging as ABL champions, despite facing stiff competition, signifies a significant leap for us,” Coach Thomas affirmed. “Our goal to represent Ghana at the Basketball African League remains unwavering, and we are prepared to meet all regulations set by the Ghana Basketball Association.”

The Knights’ journey to ABL dominance culminated in a defining victory over defending champions Braves of the Ghana Revenue Authority. With a commanding 74-40 win in the second game of the best-of-three series at the Prison’s Basketball Court in Accra, they secured the Greater Accra Basketball League Men’s Division 1 title. This triumph affirmed their status as regular season champions in their inaugural campaign, boasting an unblemished record across 22 games.
Captain Elvis Pobi Asiaw lauded the collective effort and dedication of his teammates, acknowledging the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for their pivotal contributions to the team’s success.

The team’s unprecedented rise from Division 2 underdogs to ABL champions not only signifies their dominance within the league but also serves as a testament to their resilience, ambition, and unwavering commitment to elevating Ghanaian basketball to new heights.
With eyes set on the Basketball African League, Spintex Knights affirm their readiness to continue their historic journey, poised to make Ghana proud on an international stage.
