The Ministry of Youth and Sports has denied knowledge of processes leading to the payment of 48 million dollars to businessman Alfred Woyome and Waterville Holdings for the renovation of the Kumasi and Accra Sports Stadia. This is contrary to documentation available to the Judgment Debt Commissioner, Justice Yaw Appau, which states that the money was transferred to enable the Minister of Youth and Sports, pay Woyome and Waterville. The commissioner was questioning why the money was withdrawn from the ministry’s account without proper documentation. He also questioned why the amount was routed through the ministry’s account. But Chief Director at the ministry, Abdulai Yakubu explains that they only realized the anomaly when they attempted to reconcile the account at the end of 2011.
