The Medical Director of the Bono Regional Hospital, Dr. Cardinal Newton says management will not countenance staff who fail to strictly adhere to the coronavirus safety protocols.

According to him, they have reviewed measures that will discourage staffs who flout protocols meant to protect them and clients of the hospital.

Dr. Newton was speaking after he received various items from Allianz Life Assurance in Sunyani to help the fight against the spread of the virus at the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani.

The items donated include hand sanitizers, disposable protective masks, hand soaps, flow cleaners, veronica buckets, hair nets, laboratory coats, tissue papers among others worth about ₵10,000.

Bono Region covid-19 case count remains at one but the cumulative figure of the country stands at 12,929 with 66 deaths.

Frontline health workers have not been left out as many continue to be affected by the virus.

Dr. Newton said government alone cannot shoulder the burden of providing personal protective equipment for the health facilities the reason why they welcome private organizations contributing their quota to help stop the spread of the virus.

He said though they have enough PPE available, they still need the support of individuals and institutions to win the fight against the virus.

He also noted that hospital management is to provide face masks for clients or patients who come to the hospital without wearing one. This is aimed at ensuring the lives of all including the staff at the hospital is not risked.

With the increasing number of frontline workers being affected by the virus in Ghana, the Medical Director of the Bono Regional hospital expressed worry over some staff’s noncompliance to the safety protocols which he said could expose them to the virus. He said they will go hard on any staff who disobey the laydown safety protocols.

“Some of them were not wearing the facemask, keeping it in their bags. We sent memos to all of them that they must wear it or we take actions against them. That seems to be working. We also have a team that goes around checking staff compliance just to ensure they protect themselves and others who visit the hospital”, he said.

Dr. Newton further noted that there are other few measures they are putting in place to make sure all staff is protected and ensure the protection of others at the facility.

Sales Manager of Allianz Life Assurance branch in Sunyani, Elvis Yeboah after the donation, said their motivation is to give back to the society while assisting the hospital in the fight against the virus.

He said choosing the regional hospital was key since other small health facilities in the region rely on them for support in times of need.

While advising Ghanaians to wash their hands under running water and stick to the wearing of the facemask, Elvis Yeboah said “At Allianz Life Assurance, protection remains our hallmark and the safety of our staff and clients are paramount”.
