The world and its leaders look sheepishly on whilst Israel engages in one of the gruesome attacks on life and property in Gaza for what they justify as response to Gaza’s provocations.
Reports trickling in have it that the death toll is more than 1,000 with civilians making up over 40% - including vulnerable children and women, as well as, wanton destruction of schools, mosques, houses, firms, etc.
In blatant show of complicity in support of the aggression, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, was reported to have intimated that the actions of Israel are only in defense of their territory against Hama’s meagre attacks. She also added that the responsibility of the aggression lay "clearly and exclusively" on the doorstep of Hamas.
Washington pumps as much as $3 billion annually into the Israeli military. It is also a fact that in their shameful act to perpetuate the aggression, the US government blocked the ceasefire attempt by the UN Security Council. They latter stayed abstention when the odds were against them.
All these statements are huge disregard for the many innocent lives and properties being destroyed in a place where the Israel sanctions are making life unbearable.
But the progressive forces of this world are not asleep. There is protest spreading like bushfire in the Americas, Europe, France, Africa, and even in Israel. Ordinary people are angry. They demand a cease fire now and end to the vitriolic attack on innocent lives and properties. Pure and simple!
It is important that we recognize that without peace and an end to the annexation tactics of Israel, the people of Gaza cannot engage in any progressive development to better the lot of the already impoverished people.
Add your voice. Call for a cease fire. Protest in small groups and big ones. The workers of this world must protest and be counted or else we incur the rippling effects of this merciless aggression in Palestine.
Let peace prevail on earth!
Long live Palestine!
