Labour and Employment Minister Haruna Iddrisu is optimistic striking state attorneys will return to work this week.

He said government is working assiduously to resolve the grievances of the attorneys.

The lawyers are protesting unpaid allowances and poor conditions of service.

According to them, their pensions are nothing to write home about and want the government to take an immediate look at it.

Their two-week strike is badly affecting the administration of justice across the country as judges have had to adjourn criminal cases which needed a representation from the state.

Several appeals to the Attorneys to return to work have proven futile. They are now before National Labour Commission and heading towards arbitration.

On Monday, Labour Minister Haruna Iddrisu confirmed to Joy News' Dzifa Bampoh part of the allowances being demanded by the state attorneys will be paid.

"By close of work tomorrow what is outstanding should be paid," he assured.

He said some of the issues being raised by the attorneys, particularly the issue about pension are legitimate and government will resolve them.

He however admitted that the issue in contention is the call to harmonise the salary scales of the various attorneys, something he noted government was being cautious about.

"Government will not take any decision that will undermine the smooth administration of the Single Spine Salary Structure," he noted.

He however promised that government will respect whatever ruling given on arbitration.
