The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Mr Jake Obestsebi Lamptey, charged members of the party in the United Kingdom to be prepared to work very hard and support the activites of the party in Ghana if the party is to come to power in 2012. Mr Obestebi Lamptey was addressing members and supporters of the party at a heavily packed meeting in London.
Mr Obestebi Lamptey told members that with the party in opposition the task of preparing the party and resourcing it for the next election will come from members in the diaspora. He said members should interact with their constituencies back home and also recruit more members to join the party. He also appealed to members to help raise funds to support the party’s activities in Ghana.
Jake told the gathering that the situation in Ghana has got worse under the NDC to the extent that our market women, our factory workers, hairdressers, students, commercial taxi drivers and our youth and elderly are going through extreme hardship. Real income levels had declined, transport fares and road tolls had increased by 300%, and its even difficult to get kerosene and gas which are basic essentials for all households in Ghana.
He told members to work hard and be ambassadors for NPP and Ghana and to be each brothers keeper. He said we must stay united ,focused, vigilant and insha allah it will be well with us, this statement received loud applause and a standing ovation from the members and well wishers present.
There were also messages of solidarity and goodwill from other members of the National Executive present namely Mr John Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie
(aka Sir John)General Secretary, Miss Otiko Afisah Djaba National Womens Organiser, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, National Youth Organiser.
Also present were party members from Ghana including Mr Kwabena Tahir Hammond, Former Deputy minister of Energy, Mr Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong former Branch Chairman, NPP UK and Ireland and former Deputy Ambassador to India and Miss Ursula Owusu, a member of the NPP Communications Directorate.
Mr Hayford Atta Krufi, Chairman of NPP UK and Ireland thanked Jake and his colleagues for coming to visit the branch and spending time sharing his message of hope for the party towards election 2012. He said the branch had already put modalities in place through its various committees to support the party at National Headquarters and other plans to support the party in the regions were being rolled out . He told the gathering that the biggest concerns of members and Ghanaians in the UK at present was the rampant cheating and stealing going on at the ports and harbours under the NDC that was really discouraging businesses and individuals in the UK to trade and send goods home as well as the NDC youths rampaging in the streets and towns across Ghana which was denting Ghana image as a peaceful and law abiding country. He said the party must address and bring these issues to the floor of Parliament and to the NDC government until they sit up and act.
A bouquet of flowers was also presented to all Mothers present in celebration of Mothers Day.
The meeting ended with special Christian and Muslim prayers to God to bless Ghana and the NPP
