The woes of suspended New Patriotic Party founding member, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby are far from over.
Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo, a leading member of the party has hinted that Dr. Wereko-Brobby’s suspension is likely to be a major step towards expelling him from the party.
Mr. Ayikoi Otoo made the revelation on JOY FM’s news analysis programme, Newsfile on Saturday June 8, 2013.
The NPP’s highest decision making body, the National Executive Committee, last week suspended the former Volta River Authority Chief Executive for comments on the ongoing election petition, deemed to be at variance with the party’s interest.
He criticized the NPP’s court challenge of the results of the 2012 elections and also described the party’s 2012 Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the second petitioner and key witness in the hearing, as a “clueless” and confused person.
Tarzan as he is popularly called, also commended Johnson Asiedu Nketia, witness for the third respondents in the petition, the governing National Democratic Congress, for his performance when he gave evidence and was subsequently cross examined by counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison.
Meanwhile, Dr. Wereko-Brobby has accused the leadership of his own party, New Patriotic Party, of masterminding media attacks against his personality.
He alleged on Metro TV’s Thank God it’s Friday with KSM on June 7, 2013, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey that, the people attacking him on the airwaves are sponsored by the executives of the party, noting “they go to the NPP headquarters and they tell them the line to tow and they give them credit cards to defame me”.
“Some other guy wrote some nonsense about me and they said he is a Lecturer at the University and he speaks for Nana Addo and I said so what, I can dismiss many of those criticisms because they are coming from people with no substance and no achievement for themselves and the party they claim they want to die for”.
He added that: “The only time you take most of these seriously is when they say you have chopped money and there is a modicum of truth in it then you start worrying”.
Tarzan, as he is widely known, said though he does not claim to be right at all times, he will not shy away from matters that bother him.
