The Ladies of Integrity from Trinity Baptist Church (TBC), Ghana have donated cash and household items worth GHC7, 000 to the female division of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons.
The items included sanitary towels, tooth paste, tooth brushes, bread, toilet rolls, soap, ladies’ underwear and soft drinks.
Mrs. Diana Asare, wife of resident Pastor Reuben Asare, presented the items on behalf of the ladies in a show of love and care for female inmates at the prison.
She said the gesture was in line with Jesus’ demand on Christians to give to the poor, visit the sick and prisoners among others, as recorded in Matthew 25:36.
“The founder of TBC, Rev. Kingsley Appiagyei and his wife Pastor Cynthia Appiagyei, who started Ladies of Integrity, are committed to practicalizing the demand Christ made on Christians to visit prisoners and give to the poor,” she said.
Mrs. Asare said it was their hope that the visit plus subsequent ones in the future would help to properly rehabilitate and reintegrate the inmates into society when they finish serving their terms.
The Staff Officer-in-Charge, ASP Juliana Kpodo received the items and thanked the church for their kind gesture.
She however lamented about the numerous challenges facing the prison, including lack of a projector to educate the inmates about deadly diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Ebola, cholera and others.
ASP Kpodo also complained about lack of generator to light the prison in times of power outage, which is rampant.
She also appealed to donors to support them with mowers to weed the prison’s compound.
