The Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has indicated that Ghana’s economy is doing relatively well.
“I think that when you look at the raw figures and listen to established institutions like the world bank, the statistical service and the others , we must concede that yes, inflation has dropped, he said, adding that ‘the cedi has also stabilized.”
Mr Kweku Baako was speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Programme on Thursday.
According to him, these indicators are hard realities which “we must for once not run away from.”
Recalling similar economic developments during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, Mr Baako noted that when there were clear indications that “the NPP(I) has stabilized the economy through tight monetary policies… and gave the figures which showed very serious progress, the National Democratic Congress(NDC), then in opposition rejected all those analysis, particularly, on the basis that it did not reflect in the pockets of Ghanaians.
He cautioned against politicizing issues of economic reality for the purpose of propaganda to suggest that a particular government never did well.
“I have taken a stand that we need to demystify that particular (attitude)” as far as our economic issues are concerned,” he added.
