About one thousand members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Agona West Constituency, in the Central Region, have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Seidu Mohammed Mutaba, a leading member of the NDC at Agona Nyakrom and spokesperson of the purported defectors, made this known when the Agona West Executives of the NPP, led by Mrs Cynthia Morrison, Central Regional Women Organiser, donated food items worth GH¢7,000 to seven muslim communities in the Constituency.
The items included rice, sugar, and milk among others.
The Constituency Executives who accompanied Mrs Morrison were, Mr Kwadwo Addo, Chairman, Mr Gibrine Tank Torye, Second Vice Chairman, and Mr Kofi Osei, Organiser.
The beneficiary Zongo communities were Nyakrom, Kukurantumi, Nkum, Agona Swedru Old Zongo, Swedru Sabu Zongo, Yallewa Zongo and Swedru Mangoase Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission.
Mr Mutaba indicated that the NDC party had neglected members within the constituency.
Mr Mutaba regretted that the NDC government had refused to listen to advice from the constituents, and that there was no option for them than to defect to the other side of the political divide.
Nana Salifu Daafi, of Swedru Old Zongo and Alhaji Mohammed Bashiru, Yallewa Zongo received the items on behalf of the Muslims, and expressed appreciation to the NPP for the kind gesture.
Mrs Cynthia Morrison said the donation was to motivate the Muslims during their Ramadan fasting period.
