The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has interdicted three police officers for allegedly stealing from an accident victim on the Accra-Tema motorway.
The three including female officer Olivia Asobayere and two others, Maxwell Boapong and Charles Quaye, last week stole thousands of foreign currency from a trader who was involved in an accident on the motorway.
Director of Police Public Relations, DSP Kwesi Ofori, tells Joy News besides interdiction, the three will be severely dealt with if they are found culpable.
“Following their alleged theft at the scene of the accident, the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau is investigating aspects of misconduct whilst the Criminal Investigations Department…is also investigating matters bordering on criminality,” he said, adding “The administration has also directed that they should face service inquiry – that is some sort of administrative tribunal.”
Meanwhile, the vice president and Chairman of the Police Council will this week launch a five-year strategic national policing plan.
DSP Kwesi Ofori says this would be the first administration to be guided by a policy direction on policing.
