Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA) has extended its outreach programme to the Tafi Atome community in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region.
The outreach included the donation of academic materials to pupils of the Tafi Atome community basic school, while the older residents benefited from a free health screening exercise.
Children in the community also had the opportunity to tour the sanctuary and have a close experience the monkeys for the first time.
Speaking to the media, the President of the Tour Operators Union of Ghana, Yvonne Donkor, explained that the gesture stems from one of the Union’s pillars, which stresses giving back to the communities that have tourist sites.

She explained that the tourist sites are the main driving force in their sector, when they operate and earn a living from, hence the need to extend the support.
She acknowledged the support of the Chiefs and Elders of Tafi Atome, emphasizing their warm reception and contribution to the success of the outreach.
“And to our members who journeyed to Tafi Atome, we say, ayekoo! for your selfless dedication to making an impact”, Madam Donkor concluded.
The Regent of the Tafi Atome Paramount Chief, Francis Acquaye, applauded TOUGHA for the initiative and used the opportunity to call for investment in hospitality, among others in the community.

A teacher in the Tafi Atome community basic school, Madam Mawusenam, lauded the Union for their initiative, identifying it as an eye-opener for the pupils.
She, however, identified a lack of academic logistics for the kindergarten department of the school as a major challenge, that needs to be addressed.
