A trader who provided forged University of Ghana (UG) admission letters to two prospective students of the university was on Tuesday sentenced to 36 months imprisonment in hard labour by an Accra Circuit
This was after Nana Yaw Ansah, a.k.a Mankind pleaded guilty to possessing forged UG admission letters.
Ansah however, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, defrauding by false pretences and attempted fraud.
He is to reappear on September 11.
Narrating the facts of the case, prosecution said Ansah sells second hand clothes at Kantomato, Accra.
Prosecution said during the registration of the fresh students of UG for the 2006/7 Academic year, the accused and his accomplice one Timothy, now at large collected various sums of money from innocent students and issued them with fake admission letters.
One of the students, Maame Sika Dapaah was asked to pay 17 million cedis.
Maame Sika's mother became suspicious and decided to meet the people offering assistance to her daughter, so she met Timothy.
Timothy sensing danger therefore asked Ansah to retrieve fake admission letters addressed to eight students.
Prosecution said UG authorities after scrutinizing the forms found them to be fake.
