Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has explained the decision to appoint two deputies for incoming coach Kwesi Appiah.
Saanie Daara says the decision is to ensure a smooth transition of players from the Local Black Stars to the main Black Stars.
A week after Kwesi Appiah’s confirmation as the coach, attention has been drawn to his backroom staff with great emphasis on who will assist the coach.
The GFA earlier confirmed Kwesi Appiah will have two assistants and the communications director has thrown more light on the rationale behind the decision.
For him, it will help in merging ideas for both senior national teams.
“We want him to work with two assistants because we want to synchronize between the Local Black Stars and the main Black Stars,” he told Asempa Sports
“If the same technical plan handles both teams, it gives local players the hope of playing the Black Stars.”
“Secondly, we get the opportunity to camp the local Black Stars more regularly, so that the transition from the local league to the Black Stars won`t be difficult for players.
“In our preliminary conversation with him, we gave him the direction we want to go thus, we want the local black stars to be more regular in terms of camping and others, which he agreed and said, this concept can work well.”
He, however, rejected the idea that Kwesi Appiah will appoint his own assistant.
“We are the appointing authority, there is no place in the world that allow coaches to choose their assistant.”
Kwesi Appiah officially begins work on May 1.
