The brutal rape of a medical science student of the University of Cape Coast Medical School on Saturday has prompted students to abandon academic work.It is in protest to authorities about poor security on campus. The students who assembled today in front of the administration block of the Medical School were seen clad in red armbands. The students accused the authorities of gross negligence. One student revealed that last year a committee was set up to look into security issues but this has yielded little positive results. They retold stories of recurring incidences of burglary, attempted rape, and robbery at gun point. Since the latest incident, the leadership of the medical students reportedly issued an ultimatum to school authorities. It expired yesterday. The ultimatum changed nothing, they noted. The raped student has since received medical attention at the Central Regional Hospital in Cape Coast. Authorities of the University are scheduled to meet the students to listen to their grievances.
