TRIBUTE BY
THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
TO THE LATE PRESIDENT JOHN EVANS ATTA-MILLS
PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF GHANA
The University of Ghana Alumni Association is drowned in shock and sorrow at the passing away of a honoured and dedicated Alumnus of the University of Ghana,a proud son of Legon Hall, His Excellency President John Evans Atta-Mills. His passing away comes at a time when the Alumni Association in conjunction with the University of Ghana are crafting and executing a new vision to position the university in the status of a world class institution of higher learning.
President John Evans Atta-Mills has paid his dues to the university as a true Alumnus as evidenced in dedicating more than 30 years of his youthful life in paying back to the University the investment that the university made in him as a young man. He was a beneficiary of the push by the first President of the Republic, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in pushing young men and women, in a painless, conducive, academically friendly environment at the University of Ghana, to acquire higher knowledge to put at the service of the people of Ghana.
This is exactly what President Atta Mills did in dedicating 30 years of his life as a lecturer at the Law Faculty of the University of Ghana, paying back to the young men and women of the generations after him, for the investment that the farmers, fishermen, and the good people of Ghana made in him.
As we mourn our late president we at the same time celebrate him as a shining example of what we, the University of Ghana Alumni Association, stand for. We urge all Alumni of the University to stand firmly with the President John Dramani Mahama, an honoured Alumnus, and a royal member of the Vandal City, Commonwealth Hall, together with the chiefs and people of Ghana, to honour and celebrate our late president.
Our condolences go to Mrs Naadu Mills, their son and the Mills’ family and indeed the people of Ghana on our great loss.
May the soul of President John Evans Atta-Mills rest in perfect peace. DAMIRIFA DUE! DUE NE AMANEHUNU!!
Issued on behalf of the University of Ghana Alumni Assosiation,
Paa Kwesi Yankey, Chairman
