Authorities at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) are upbeat about the preparedness of the university to start running masters and Doctor of Philosophies (PhD) degrees programmes in Health and Allied Sciences in the next academic year.
According to the Vice Chancellor Professor Fred Newton Binka, the university hopes to begin the graduate programme in Public Health which will have five areas of specialization including Monitoring and Evaluation, Health Systems, Reproductive Health, Public Health Nutrition and Epidemiology. These would be run at the School of Public Health at Hohoe.
The University which is only 3 years old is also making efforts to begin PhD programmes as well.
“We are We also will submit for review our PhD Programme in public Health (to the National Accreditation Board) and we hope to receive our first students in the next academic year,” said Professor Binka.
The University is currently running 15 health-related degree programmes under five schools out of eight envisaged at the start of the university.
These schools are Schools of Nursing and Midwifery, Basic and Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Public Health and Allied Health Sciences.
Prof. Binka made these known at the 4th matriculation of the university at its permanent site at Sokode Lokoe, near Ho where 829 students were formally accepted as junior members of the university on Saturday.
The 4th matriculation ceremony is the first academic event held at the permanent site. The President of the republic is expected to commission completed facilities at the permanent site before the end of the year.
The Vice Chancellor also hinted of the relocation of the central administration and the school of Basic and Bio-medical Sciences from the incubatory facilities to the permanent site before the end of the year.
