Unemployed jailed for possession Indian hemp

A circuit court at Tarkwa has sentenced Kweku Mensah, a 30-year-old unemployed man, to three years imprisonment for possessing Indian hemp. Mensah, who pleaded guilty, was also fined 120 Ghana cedis or in default another eight months imprisonment. Police Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel O. Diawoo that on March 28 this year, at about 0400 hours, the Police undertook a swoop in some suburbs of the Tarkwa Municipality. She said matches box containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found on Mensah when he was arrested at the Tarkwa Railway Station. Source: GNA
