You should be on the lookout for the upgraded 50 cedi note later today in your transactions at the bank. This is because the Bank of Ghana is set to release the currency to commercial banks later today after an official launch this morning.
The bank note comes with some enhanced-security features prominent among them being the green cocoa pod spark which replaces the silver hologram patch on the right hand corner of the note.
Head of Issue Department at the Bank of Ghana Catherine Ashiley tells JOY-BUSINESS they are confident the enhanced security features will help check counterfeiting of the currency.
The note will bear the signature of Vice President Kwesi Amissah- Arthur. This is because the notes were printed in June when he was then the Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
JOY-BUSINESS has learnt the upgraded note will be in circulation with the old notes for a short while before it’s completely withdrawn.
