The Upper West Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Abubukar Abdul-Rahman Short has led members of the party to the Wa Central constituency office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to console them on the demise of president John Atta Mills and also to sign the book of condolence. Dressed in black smock and draped in a red muffler, Alhaji Abdul Rahman said, after signing the book of condolence, the demise of President Mills is not a matter that should be left on the shoulders of the NDC alone but for the whole nation and thus explains their presence at the NDC secretariat. "There is a cordial relationship between the two parties in this region. Our relationship with the NDC is very solid in terms of everything. So as custom and tradition demands we saw the need to come and register our condolences with them and also give them assurance that in this moment of grief we are with them," he said. The NPP regional chairman stated that he is of the view that this year’s polls will come off without a scintilla of blood been lost. "Elections are not about quarrels or problems but it is about ideologies which differ, that does not mean that we should have confusion when we think differently," he stated. The Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Kale Caesar thanked the NPP delegation for the visit while reechoing the thoughts of the NPP chairman on the need to have peaceful polls. "In the region, we relate to each other as one people. When it comes to our political ideas then we differ. I think if we can continue with this show of oneness and be each other’s keeper, election 2012 will come and pass peacefully. I believe this is the greatest tribute we can pay to president Atta Mills. We all know what he has done for Upper West, which is indelible, clear for everybody to see. We owe him lots of gratitude, lots of tribute for the unprecedented development he has given to the Upper West region," he added.
