Upward Motion Foundation and Smile Enough Africa (SEA), a foundation comprising young individuals, have partnered to embark on an empowerment programme for adolescent girls in the Central Region of Ghana. The collaboration, centered on a regional school tour, aims to inspire, educate, and equip girls with the skills and confidence they need to thrive.
It also seeks to tackle pressing issues such as low self-esteem, limited leadership opportunities, and the lack of mentorship among young girls, particularly in underserved communities. Through a carefully curated program of mentorship sessions, interactive workshops, and inspirational talks, the initiative will target five schools across Agona West, Gomoa East, Gomoa West, and Assin districts from April to August 2025.
Key goals of the partnership include:
- Empowering girls with leadership and life skills through engaging school-based sessions;
- Creating safe spaces for sharing experiences and building confidence;
- Training student volunteers to become peer mentors, extending the project's impact beyond the tour;
- Encouraging civic responsibility and giving back through a structured mentorship program.
After the tour, selected participants will be trained to return to their communities and mentor junior high school students, ensuring the ripple effect of positive change continues.
The initiative contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education) and 5 (Gender Equality) by equipping underprivileged girls with mentorship, leadership skills, and access to educational opportunities. Fostering their empowerment and breaking cycles of inequality.
It is also in alignment with Africa's Agenda 2063, particularly Aspiration 6, leaders who can drive the continent's socio-economic transformation.
