A floating tanker vessel to collect and process crude oil from the Jubilee fields is expected to arrive in the country by May this year.
The tanker termed the floating, production, storage and offloading vessel or FPSO is 93 percent complete and will be commissioned in a few weeks by the Vice President in Singapore before it sets sail for Ghana.
According to Joy FM’s Israel Laryea who was among a group of journalists who visited Singapore to inspect the vessel, no words or pictures can describe the vessel.
Although the media men had been prepared prior to the visit, Israel reports the vessel was so huge there was a general feeling they had not been prepared well enough for the experience of seeing it and going aboard it.
“Safety has been a number one issue and so constantly all through the visit our hosts harped on it over and over again. So that before our visit to the side of the FPSO, we were given our final briefing and then handed protective clothing, boots, goggles and gloves. It is estimated to be 360 meters long, that’s more than three football fields put together lengthwise. To bring it closer home, imagine the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra stretching from the Independence Square end, beyond the military cemetery. That’s how big and wide it is.,” he said.
