The Trades Union Congress (TUC) says neither the leadership of the union nor its members are in alliance with any political party in the country.
"We wish to state that the TUC as a mother body for the Ghanaian worker is not affiliated to any political party or in alliance as being suggested in certain quarters," the TUC said in a statement issued in Accra Tuesday.
The statement was in reaction to alleged comments made by the Deputy Agriculture Minister in charge of Fisheries, Nii Amasa Namoale; which sought to accuse officials of the union of frustrating government's socio-economic development efforts.
Signed by the General Secretary of the TUC, Mr Kofi Asamoah, the statement said the union had over the years engaged successive governments on issues of concern to the working people of Ghana.
It said the union's engagement with the government had been in the spirit of social partnership, hence the impression being created that the union was undermining the efforts of the government was unfortunate.
It said the TUC had never reneged on its commitment to pursue the interest of the working people of Ghana, although employers had not complied with the payment of the minimum wage to employees owing to the non-enforcement of legal provisions on employment in the country.
The statement warned persons with little competence in labour issues in the country to desist from making unguarded pronouncements that had the potential of raising the temperature of labour relations in the country as a tense labour atmosphere would not serve the interest of the government or the working people of Ghana.
