A suspect who appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court on a charge of possessing suspected Indian hemp, collapsed after he was remanded in prison custody.
Efforts to revive Abu Yakubu outside the court premises proved futile and had to be rushed to the local hospital where he re-gained consciousness.
Yakubu, described as a security man, was arrested by a police patrol team at Asamankese Aboase on June 1, for being in possessing of two wrappers of dried leaves found in his pocket.
He was escorted to the Asamankese Police Station with the exhibit, where he admitted that he was in possession of a narcotic substance.
Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri told the court that the exhibit was being sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
The Judge then ordered that Yakubu be remanded in prison custody until June 24.
