Private legal practitioner Alfred Paapa Darkwah has commended the Attorney General for his transparency in justifying the discontinuation of certain prosecutions.
According to him, such openness should be encouraged.
“We have an Attorney General who has found it reasonable to give us reasons why he has discontinued the prosecution of a case. On the face of it, it's a good thing, and this is something that should be encouraged,” Mr Darkwah remarked.
Mr Darkwah’s comments come amidst ongoing public discourse on the Attorney General’s recent decisions to withdraw certain high-profile cases.
While acknowledging that the public does not have access to the full details of the reviewed cases, he maintained that the Attorney General should not be expected to pursue legal actions he does not believe in.
“If the Attorney General does not believe in a particular cause of action, I don’t think we should expect him to prosecute the case.
"I think we will need time to interrogate these justifications and see whether they are reasonable or not. That one, we cannot take it away from ourselves. But the first thing that we need to say is that we are all encouraged by this show of transparency by the new Attorney General,” he said.
