A member of the NDC communications team, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu has hit back hard at the Attorney General’s ‘explosive statement’, suggesting that the A-G chickened out by failing to resign.
The A-G, Mr Martin Amidu, in a fiery response to what he says are publications by the NDC press to run him down, accused the Daily Post, National Democrat and the Ghanaian Lens of allowing themselves to be used by an unnamed colleague minister of state.
He suggested the attacks were being orchestrated because some persons within the NDC are unhappy that he is going after suspected criminals within the party. He also mocked efforts by the NDC communications team to defend the government, accusing them of being inexperienced.
However, speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile hosted by Sampson Ladi Ayenini, Saturday, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu thinks with the level of inherent bitterness exposed by Mr Martin Amidu; his claim that he never begged for his position; and the general tone of his statement show the “height of irresponsibility” on the A-G’s part.
He said with the A-G’s self-acclaimed principle, the “honourable thing” was for him to follow his statement with a resignation letter.
“Indeed he also creates the impression that he is a very principled person, I expected that at the tail end of this statement, in keeping with his exposition of principle, he would have added that he was quitting...if I were him I would have resigned immediately I issued this statement because he has made his position in government untenable.
“He should do the honourable thing and quit government at this particular moment because what he has done is improper and cannot be countenanced in any government.”
He further maintained: “What he has betrayed is a lack of commitment and passion for the job; again he has affronted the president and created the impression that without him the president could [not] have run a government.”
He observed that the development would affect the A-G’s relationship with his colleague ministers.
The opposition NPP is spreading its tentacles to find fault with the government, Kwakye-Fosu stated, arguing that the statement would “sing the government further”.
“The opposition has attacked us, attacked us, attacked us; you’ve said nothing. When sections of the media loyal to the NDC criticise you and raise issues about what they perceived to be non-performance on your part, and [you] go out of your way to blow your top and say things that indict your own government, I think it is the height of irresponsibility.”
The Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Malik Kweku Baako, more or less, concurred with Kwakye-Ofosu.
“The implications of this explosive statement are such that it would make sense to me if the Attorney General had decided that he was on his way out of the government, and for that matter takes step to exit on his own.”
